Like child and adolescent psychologists, pediatric psychologists are trained to evaluate and treat a range of mental health conditions that negatively impact the functioning of young people. In addition, pediatric psychologists are concerned with physical health and illness and how these conditions interact with children’s mental health. Pediatric psychologists use their understanding of effective, evidence-based treatments and child development to help youth and their families promote wellness, improve coping with medical conditions, and lessen the effects of co-occurring mental health conditions.
